At South West Kids Clinic, we’re proud to offer warm and individualised speech therapy for children in the Bankstown area, including those with more complex needs who may benefit from support at home or school.

Our qualified speech pathologists, based in Prestons and Picton, work closely with families to create personalised therapy plans that help children overcome communication difficulties and build long-term confidence.

For children who require extra support, we consider home or school visits on a case-by-case basis to ensure therapy takes place in the most suitable environment for a positive long-term result.

What makes our clinic different is the way our speech pathologists collaborate with our in-house team of occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and dietitians to provide well-rounded, holistic care.

Contact us today on (02) 9602 3377 or via our online contact form to discover how we can support your child’s communication and development.

How Our Paediatric Speech Pathologists Support Your Child

Rectangle 226021

L 02

Every child communicates in their own way. Our speech pathologists work closely with families to understand your child’s unique needs and create a therapy plan that supports their speech, language, and feeding development. Whether your child needs help with pronunciation, social communication, or mealtime difficulties, we use structured, evidence-based strategies that support real progress.

Enhancing Language Development and Communication

Strong language skills help children connect with others, express their needs, and succeed in daily life. Some children need support understanding what’s said to them, while others may struggle to find the right words or form clear sentences. We use targeted strategies to build vocabulary, improve sentence structure, and support overall communication.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) support provides tools and systems that support children with limited or no verbal speech. Our speech pathologists assess your child’s needs and trial options like communication boards, speech-generating devices, or specialised apps. We also guide families, educators, and support staff on how to use these tools in everyday life to empower your child to express their thoughts, make choices, and connect with others.

Clear speech helps children feel understood and confident. We assess how your child produces speech sounds and use evidence-based techniques to improve articulation and clarity. Therapy is tailored to your child’s needs and delivered in a way that feels engaging and achievable. Improving speech sound accuracy not only supports communication but also builds confidence in social and learning environments.

Our speech therapy plans are built around your child’s specific needs, strengths, and goals because we never take a one-size-fits-all approach. We work with families, educators, and other professionals to set clear, measurable goals that support speech clarity, language understanding, and social communication. These goals guide every session and ensure therapy stays focused and relevant so your child can make steady progress in a way that feels supportive and meaningful.

Stuttering can make it difficult for children to speak freely and comfortably. It may affect their confidence, especially in social or classroom settings. Our speech pathologists use evidence-based techniques to help children speak more smoothly and manage stuttering with less frustration. Sessions include real-world practice and support for both the child and their family, so they can leave and implement strategies straight away.

Some children have difficulty chewing or swallowing safely, a condition known as dysphagia. Our speech pathologists assess your child’s feeding and swallowing skills and create a plan to improve safety, nutrition intake and well-being. We work closely with families to make mealtimes safer, more enjoyable, and less stressful for everyone through targeted techniques that strengthen oral muscles and build confidence during mealtimes.

How Our Paediatric Speech Pathologists Can Help

Rectangle 224@2x
L 01
L 02

We offer a range of therapy programs designed to support children with speech, language, communication, and feeding challenges. Every treatment is evidence-based and adjusted to suit your child’s specific needs and abilities.

Our goal is to provide practical, effective support that helps your child communicate more clearly, eat more safely, and participate more fully in daily life.

HANEN

The HANEN program gives parents practical tools to support their child’s language development at home. It’s based on the idea that everyday interactions are powerful opportunities for communication growth.

Our speech pathologists guide you in recognising your child’s communication cues and responding in ways that encourage language. These strategies are woven into daily routines like mealtime, play, and getting ready for bed so children can see their progress and feel more confident in their speech.

Play-based therapy is one of the most effective ways for children to learn and communicate by building language, social skills, and confidence in a way that feels natural and engaging. Each session is guided by your child’s interests and play style. By creating a pressure-free environment, children can develop essential skills while doing what they enjoy most.

When children have limited verbal speech, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems can offer a reliable way to communicate. We assess and trial a range of AAC options, including communication boards, specialised apps, and speech-generating devices, depending on your child’s needs. Our team also provides training for families, educators, and support workers so these systems are used consistently and effectively.

For children with significant physical challenges, switch access methods offer an alternative way to communicate and interact with their surroundings. These systems allow your child to control communication devices, toys, or even everyday items using a switch activated by a part of their body that they can move more effectively. We customise each setup to your child’s needs and abilities, ensuring it’s comfortable and easy to use so your child has more ways to engage with others and the world around them.

DTTC is a specialised therapy used for children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). Our therapists use a mix of verbal, visual, and touch-based cues to guide your child through speech sounds and word patterns. As your child becomes more confident, we gradually reduce the level of support, and with repeated practice and a clear structure, children produce more accurate, consistent speech over time, boosting confidence.

Rapid Syllable Transition Treatment (ReST) is designed for children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech, dysarthria, or severe phonological disorders. It focuses on helping children produce smooth, accurate transitions between sounds and syllables. Our speech pathologists guide your child through structured practice using non-words and real words to strengthen motor planning. With consistent support, ReST helps improve speech clarity and make communication more natural and fluent.

Phonological awareness is the ability to recognise and work with the sounds in spoken language, and is a key skill for both clear speech and early literacy. We use fun, structured activities to help children identify sounds, blend syllables, and break words into parts. These skills lay the foundation for stronger reading, writing, and speech development.

PROMPT is a hands-on therapy approach that helps children with motor speech difficulties improve their ability to speak clearly. Using gentle touch cues on the jaw, lips, and tongue, our therapists guide your child through the physical movements needed for accurate speech. This helps them build better control, coordination, and awareness of how sounds are formed, especially useful for children who struggle with planning or producing speech sounds consistently.

The Lidcombe Program is a structured therapy approach that helps young children reduce stuttering through parent-led support at home. Our speech therapists teach parents how to give positive, gentle feedback during everyday conversations. These strategies are easy to use and become part of your daily routines, like mealtimes or play, making them more effective. With regular guidance, children can develop smoother speech in a familiar and supportive environment.

Fluency intervention helps children speak with a smoother rhythm and fewer interruptions, helping your child feel confident when they speak. We use structured exercises, real-life practice, and supportive techniques to improve the flow of speech. Our therapists also work with families and teachers to make sure these strategies carry over into everyday conversations so your child can build the skills to speak comfortably in any setting.

Mealtimes can be stressful with a child who has feeding difficulties. Responsive Feeding Practices (RFP) help create a calmer, more positive experience around food. We focus on building trust, encouraging self-feeding, and reducing stress for both the child and parent for more enjoyable mealtimes at home.

VitalStim is a specialised therapy used to support children with swallowing difficulties, including dysphagia. It uses gentle neuromuscular electrical stimulation to help strengthen the muscles involved in swallowing. During sessions, our trained therapists guide your child through specific exercises while applying safe stimulation to targeted areas. VitalStim is used alongside traditional therapy techniques to support safer, more effective feeding for children.

Feeding difficulties aren’t always about behaviour, they can often be linked to how a child’s oral motor skills and development affect their ability to eat. Our speech pathologists assess your child’s chewing, biting, and swallowing abilities and identify foods that support their skill level. We gradually introduce new textures and food types to build strength, coordination, and confidence at mealtimes, helping your child move safely and successfully through different stages of eating.

The STEPS+ (Supportive Treatment of Eating in Preschoolers) Program is designed for children with dysphagia, food refusal, or Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). It provides structured, supportive therapy that helps reduce anxiety and create positive food experiences. Our team uses trauma-informed strategies to gently introduce new foods, build a routine around mealtimes, and help make eating more enjoyable for everyone involved.

For infants who struggle with bottle feeding, pacing methods can help regulate milk flow and improve feeding comfort. Our therapists guide parents on how to adjust bottle positioning, choose suitable teat flows, and use thickening agents if needed. We tailor each approach to your baby’s needs, working closely with medical and therapy teams to ensure consistent care.

The Division of Responsibility Method helps create a calm and balanced mealtime environment by assigning clear roles to both caregivers and children during meals. Caregivers decide what food is offered, when it’s served, and where mealtimes happen. Children are encouraged to listen to their own hunger and fullness cues and are in charge of how much they want to eat. This approach supports a healthier relationship with food and encourages positive eating habits over time.

We support children of all ages who are facing challenges with nutrition, eating habits, or growth. Our dietitians focus on creating positive food experiences that are realistic, sustainable, and suited to your child’s individual needs.

We provide expert support for:

Gastrointestinal Health

Digestive issues like reflux, constipation, coeliac disease, or IBS can affect how your child feels and eats. We consider your child’s growth patterns, medical needs, and personal preferences to create a plan that supports progress over time.

We create a plan that supports steady, healthy weight gain using practical strategies that fit into your family’s daily routine for long-term outcomes.

Feeding difficulties like sensory sensitivities, food refusal, or highly selective eating can cause stress for both children and parents. We work with your child to gently expand their food range and build positive mealtime routines so your child can become more confident and comfortable around food.

Managing food allergies or intolerances can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to keep your child safe while still meeting their nutritional needs.

Our dietitians create clear, practical meal plans that avoid trigger foods without compromising on growth or variety. We also help families understand food labels, cross-contamination risks, and how to make safe food choices outside the home.

Our Approach to Helping Children with Physiotherapy

Every child is different, and so is the way they move, grow, and interact with the world. That’s why we don’t just follow a standard program, we build one that fits your child’s specific needs, goals, and personality.

Our paediatric physiotherapists use hands-on techniques, targeted exercises, and play-based therapy to help your child gain strength, improve movement, and feel more confident in their body. We focus on what matters most to your child and your family, whether that’s walking, sitting up, joining in at school, or playing with friends.

We provide comprehensive support for:

Facilitate Gross Motor Development

We support children in developing core movement skills, such as sitting, crawling, walking, and jumping. These skills are essential for everyday life, from getting dressed to playing outside. Our physiotherapists use play-based activities and guided exercises to strengthen muscles, enhance balance, and improve coordination. Each session is adjusted to your child’s level so they feel supported and motivated.

Many children struggle with tight muscles, poor posture, or low strength, which makes everyday movement harder than it should be. We support children to build strength and flexibility in ways that feel achievable and motivating. Improved strength and flexibility can make a big difference, helping your child sit comfortably, stay active longer, and move through their day with ease.

Some children struggle to sit upright, stay steady on their feet, or move in a coordinated way, often as a result of poor posture or difficulty controlling specific muscles. Our physiotherapists focus on positioning, alignment, and coordination, which can reduce discomfort, improve focus, and give your child more confidence in how they move through the day.

Many children need support to build core physical skills like balance, coordination, and strength. These are the basics that help with daily tasks, school routines, and play. We use practical, goal-based activities to help your child improve how they move. With stronger physical skills, your child can do more on their own and keep up with others in everyday situations.

Some children require help with movements they use in everyday life, such as walking up stairs or getting in and out of a chair. With targeted support, we can adjust our approach as your child improves, building strength and control through repetition and encouragement, so they become more confident and capable.

Our physiotherapists assess your child’s needs and trial different mobility aids to find what works best. We make sure each aid fits well and supports your child’s movement, comfort, and independence. With the right equipment, your child can move more freely, join in more activities, and feel more in control of their environment.

Orthotics and ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) are custom devices that help improve alignment and stability. We assess your child’s movement and posture, then prescribe and fit devices that are designed to support safe, efficient movement and reduce strain on the body.

Serial casting and splinting help improve flexibility and joint range over time. Our physiotherapists use gentle, progressive techniques to support muscles and joints in better positions. Casts or splints are adjusted gradually to encourage improved movement without causing pain or stress.

Joining in with sports, games, or community activities helps your child connect with others and stay active, but they may need extra help to do so safely and confidently. Our physiotherapists focus on the movements and tasks involved in your child’s chosen activity to suit their ability and help them reach their goals.

We help everyday tasks feel more manageable by adjusting how they are approached without taking away the challenge. Our physiotherapists break down movements like getting dressed, climbing stairs, or using playground equipment and adapt them to match your child’s current skills while still promoting progress.

We work closely with parents and carers to share practical strategies that can be used at home between therapy sessions. Our physiotherapists guide you through engaging exercises, positioning tips, and everyday routines that support your child’s development.

Some children experience pain from injury, strain, or long-term conditions, which can make movement and activity difficult. We help manage this pain so your child can stay active and engaged through gentle exercises, positioning, or supportive therapies tailored to your child’s needs.

Our Child-Focused Physiotherapy Treatment Techniques

Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI):

DMI is a therapy approach used to support children with motor delays or neurological function in children with developmental challenges. Our physiotherapists lead your child through targeted exercises that challenge their body to respond and adapt. By improving strength, balance, and motor control through guided movement, we can help children gain greater independence in daily tasks.

Pediasuit therapy supports children with neurological or developmental conditions by improving posture, strength, and muscle control. It involves a lightweight orthotic system that provides resistance and proprioceptive feedback during movement to help your child activate the right muscles while keeping their body aligned.

Spider cage therapy uses a frame with elastic cords to support your child’s body during movement. This setup lets your child attempt movements they may not manage on their own, building confidence and ability over time.

Hydrotherapy is a water-based treatment that helps children move more easily by reducing the strain on their muscles and joints. Our physiotherapists use exercises that target strength, balance, and coordination while taking advantage of the water’s natural resistance.

We support children both before and after surgery to build strength, improve mobility, and reduce stress during the recovery process. We maintain close partnerships with hospitals and medical specialists to ensure consistent, coordinated care for your child throughout their rehabilitation journey.

How Our Paediatric Occupational Therapists Help Liverpool

Rectangle 226021
L 01
L 02

Our paediatric occupational therapy services focus on helping children develop essential skills, complete daily tasks independently, and thrive in their environment. Through advanced techniques, equipment solutions, and personalised training, we work to meet your child’s unique needs. By modifying tasks and providing support, we aim to empower both children and their families for long-term success. Here is how we can help:

Support to Participate in Daily Activities

We assist children in developing essential skills needed to participate in everyday tasks like dressing, feeding, and self-care. Through engaging and structured activities, our goal is to help your child gain independence and confidence, making daily routines smoother and more enjoyable for both the child and family.

Focusing on essential motor and cognitive abilities, we help your child strengthen the core skills they need for daily activities. From sensory integration to fine motor control, these foundational skills are critical for success in both learning and social environments.

Through targeted, individualised training, we help your child master key tasks that promote independence. Whether it’s using utensils, writing, or other essential activities, this focused approach ensures progress in the areas that matter most to your child’s development.

We provide access to advanced equipment designed to support your child’s therapy and daily activities. From adaptive devices to assistive technology, our goal is to enhance your child’s independence and ability to participate in everyday tasks. We assess their needs to ensure the right equipment is selected for optimal development and comfort.

Adapting tasks to fit your child’s abilities is crucial for promoting success. By modifying how daily activities are approached, we ensure your child can overcome challenges and complete tasks more independently, improving their confidence in both home and school settings.

Our occupational therapists provide splinting and casting services to support your child’s hand function and positioning. Whether for protection, correction, or improved mobility, we customise splints and casts to help your child achieve better outcomes and enhance their ability to participate in daily tasks.

We conduct comprehensive environmental assessments to ensure your child’s surroundings are supportive and accessible. Whether at home, school, or in the community, we make recommendations for changes or modifications that can improve safety and ease of participation in daily activities.

We provide expert recommendations and support for vehicle modifications that enhance your child’s safety and independence while travelling. Whether it’s adjustments to seating, access, or specialised equipment, our goal is to ensure your child can travel comfortably and participate in family and community life with greater ease.

Personalised home programs are crafted to reinforce the progress made during therapy sessions. These programs are easy to integrate into daily routines, empowering you to support your child’s ongoing development in a familiar environment.

By working closely with doctors, educators, and other professionals, we ensure a holistic approach to your child’s care. This collaboration allows for more comprehensive support, addressing every aspect of your child’s growth and development.

Advanced, Evidence-Based Techniques We Implement

Rectangle 224@2x
L 01
L 02

We use a variety of advanced, evidence-based techniques to support your child’s development and independence. Our approaches are designed to target specific challenges, improve motor skills, and promote long-term progress. From goal-directed training to innovative therapies like Lusiomate, we tailor each method to meet your child’s unique needs and help them achieve the best possible outcomes in a fun and engaging way.

Goal-Directed Training

Goal-directed training focuses on specific functional goals that are meaningful to your child and family, such as improving handwriting or dressing skills. This approach breaks tasks down into smaller, manageable steps and uses repetitive practice to help children master each step. Our therapists work closely with your child to track progress and adjust goals as needed, ensuring that therapy is both engaging and effective in promoting independence in daily activities.

Bimanual therapy is designed to improve the use of both hands in activities that require coordination, such as dressing, playing, or eating. This technique focuses on enhancing the strength, control, and coordination of the hands through structured, repetitive tasks that require the simultaneous use of both hands. By practising these activities, children can improve their ability to perform essential tasks, promoting greater independence in everyday life.

Modified Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT) is used to encourage the use of a child’s weaker arm or hand by restricting the stronger one. This approach helps improve strength, coordination, and functional use of the affected limb through repetitive practice and structured activities. We tailor the therapy to your child’s needs, ensuring progress in everyday tasks such as reaching, grasping, and manipulating objects, promoting greater independence in daily activities.

The CO-OP approach is a goal-oriented, problem-solving technique that teaches children how to use cognitive strategies to perform daily tasks. We guide your child through the process of planning, executing, and evaluating actions, helping them develop skills like dressing, handwriting, or navigating their environment. This technique empowers children to think through challenges and find solutions independently, fostering confidence and long-term skill development.

Theratogs are a therapeutic garment system designed to provide external support to improve posture, alignment, and motor control. They help children with conditions such as cerebral palsy or developmental delays by providing gentle compression and sensory feedback. This wearable system enhances movement patterns and helps children practice motor tasks with more stability and control, contributing to better functional outcomes in daily activities.

We offer specialised therapy before and after Botox treatments to maximise the effects of the injections. Before treatment, we focus on preparing muscles for better outcomes. Post-Botox, we design targeted exercises and activities that take advantage of the increased muscle relaxation to build strength, improve range of motion, and enhance motor control, helping your child achieve greater functional independence.

Our pre- and post-surgery rehabilitation services are designed to support your child’s recovery and preparation for surgery. Before surgery, we help strengthen muscles and improve flexibility to optimise the outcome. Post-surgery, we focus on restoring movement, rebuilding strength, and promoting a safe, effective recovery through tailored exercises and therapeutic interventions.

Lusiomate is a wearable device used to engage children in fun, interactive therapy by using motion-sensing technology. The device tracks movement and integrates with virtual games, allowing children to practise motor skills in an engaging way. By combining physical activity with gaming, Lusiomate makes therapy enjoyable while enhancing balance, coordination, and muscle control, encouraging consistent progress in a motivating environment.

We offer a range of specialised services designed to address speech, language, and feeding difficulties. By understanding your child’s unique needs and working closely with your family, we create tailored therapy plans that focus on achieving meaningful progress. Whether your child needs help with speech clarity, language development, or feeding skills, our goal is to support their growth and confidence every step of the way.

Accelerate Understanding and Use of Language

We focus on accelerating your child’s understanding and use of language. Our speech therapists work with children to enhance their ability to comprehend and express themselves through targeted strategies and activities. We tailor our approach to each child’s unique needs, promoting vocabulary growth, sentence formation, and effective communication. Our goal is to help your child develop strong language skills that boost their confidence and independence in daily interactions.

We offer Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) services to support children who face significant challenges with verbal communication. Our therapists specialise in assessing and implementing AAC solutions tailored to each child’s needs, such as communication boards, apps, or speech-generating devices. We guide families through the selection and integration process, ensuring these tools are effectively used at home and school, enabling children to express their needs, thoughts, and emotions confidently.

Our speech sound development services focus on helping children articulate sounds clearly and correctly. We assess each child’s speech patterns to identify specific sound errors or delays. Using evidence-based techniques, our therapists guide children through exercises that target these challenges, improving their ability to produce sounds and speak clearly. By addressing speech sound issues early, we aim to enhance your child’s overall communication skills, fostering better social interactions and academic performance.

Our therapists collaborate closely with families as well as your child’s therapy team, educators, and medical professionals to set specific, measurable goals tailored to each child’s unique needs. Whether targeting speech clarity, language comprehension, or social communication, these goals guide our therapy sessions, ensuring that each child receives focused support. This personalised approach helps children achieve meaningful progress, building the skills they need to thrive in everyday life.

Stuttering and fluency difficulties can deeply affect a child’s communication and self-esteem. Our approach focuses on helping children achieve smoother, more fluent speech through personalised strategies and exercises that reduce stuttering. Collaboration with families and educators is key, as it ensures that techniques are reinforced in everyday situations. This comprehensive support system helps children build confidence in their communication abilities, leading to improved interactions at home, school, and in social settings.

Dysphagia, which involves difficulty swallowing, can have serious implications for a child’s health and quality of life. Our dysphagia intervention addresses these challenges with tailored therapy plans that focus on improving safe swallowing and overall oral function. These plans are customised to address the specific challenges each child faces, ensuring they can eat and drink with greater ease and comfort. The goal is to enhance the child’s ability to eat and drink safely, thereby improving their overall well-being and participation in daily activities.

Advanced Speech Pathology Treatments We Implement

Rectangle 224@2x
L 01
L 02

Our team of experienced therapists utilises a variety of specialised techniques designed to address a wide range of speech and language challenges. By combining evidence-based practices with a deep commitment to personalised care, we aim to support each child’s communication journey, helping them achieve meaningful progress in a nurturing and supportive environment. Here are the speech pathology methods we implement:

HANEN

The HANEN approach is designed to empower parents and caregivers to support their child’s language development through everyday interactions. By focusing on natural, everyday activities, this technique encourages children to communicate and engage in meaningful conversations. The approach is particularly effective for young children and those with early language delays. It helps create a language-rich environment at home, where parents become active participants in their child’s speech and language growth, reinforcing the progress made during therapy sessions.

Learn To Play/Play-based Therapy is a child-centred approach that uses play as a primary medium for encouraging communication and language development. This technique allows children to explore, create, and interact in a way that feels natural and enjoyable. Through structured play activities, children develop critical language, social, and cognitive skills. Our therapists guides these play sessions to target specific speech and language goals, making learning both fun and effective, while also promoting the child’s overall development.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) provides essential support for children who struggle with verbal communication. This technique includes tools like communication boards, speech-generating devices, and picture systems to help children express themselves. AAC is tailored to each child’s abilities, ensuring they can communicate effectively in a way that suits their needs. The goal is to enhance the child’s ability to interact with others, fostering greater independence and participation in daily activities.

For children who face physical challenges in using traditional communication tools, Switch Access Methods offer an adaptable solution. This technique involves customising switches to respond to a child’s specific motor abilities, enabling them to control devices with simple actions like pressing a button or activating a switch with a particular movement. By providing access to communication through these methods, children gain the ability to interact more independently, ensuring they can participate in conversations and express themselves effectively.

Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC) is a specialised method for treating severe speech motor disorders, such as apraxia of speech. This approach involves intensive, hands-on practice where the therapist provides cues that gradually fade as the child’s speech improves. The focus is on refining the timing and coordination of speech movements to produce clearer, more accurate speech. DTTC is highly adaptive, with the therapist modifying cues and practice intensity based on the child’s progress.

Rapid Syllable Transition Treatment (ReST) is a targeted approach for children with childhood apraxia of speech. This method focuses on practising rapid transitions between sounds, syllables, and words to improve speech fluency and accuracy. Through structured and repetitive practice, children learn to produce more natural-sounding speech with correct prosody. Unlike other techniques, ReST emphasises real words and phrases, helping children apply their skills in everyday communication, thus enhancing their ability to be understood by others.

Phonological Awareness is essential for developing strong reading and spelling skills. This technique involves teaching children to recognise and manipulate sounds in words, such as rhyming, segmenting, and blending. By focusing on the sound structure of language, children gain a deeper understanding of how words are formed, which is critical for literacy development. Activities are tailored to the child’s age and skill level, ensuring that they build a solid foundation for reading and writing success.

PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets) is an advanced technique used to improve speech clarity and coordination in children. Our therapists use tactile cues on your child’s face to guide them in producing specific sounds. By physically shaping the movements required for speech, children can develop more accurate articulation and muscle memory. PROMPT is particularly effective for children with motor speech disorders, as it provides immediate, hands-on feedback that helps them achieve clearer, more precise speech.

The Lidcombe Program is a behavioural treatment designed specifically for young children who stutter. This evidence-based approach involves parents in the therapy process, where they deliver positive reinforcement for fluent speech during everyday conversations. The program is structured around naturalistic speech practice, with our therapist guiding parents on how to effectively implement these techniques at home. This early intervention strategy is highly effective in reducing stuttering, fostering more fluent and confident communication in children.

Fluency intervention focuses on helping children develop smoother, more natural speech patterns, particularly those who struggle with stuttering. The approach involves a combination of strategies tailored to each child’s unique needs, such as breathing techniques, speech pacing, and gentle corrections. By practising these techniques, children learn to speak with greater ease and confidence. The goal is to reduce instances of stuttering and empower the child to communicate effectively in various social and academic settings.

Responsive Feeding Practices (RFP) are designed to create a positive, stress-free mealtime environment for children who have feeding difficulties. This approach encourages parents to be attuned to their child’s hunger and fullness cues, promoting a more intuitive and enjoyable eating experience. The focus is on building trust between the child and caregiver, helping the child feel safe and supported during meals. By fostering a responsive and relaxed approach to feeding, children are more likely to develop healthy eating habits and overcome feeding challenges.

The Developmental Food Continuum is a method used to support children in progressing through different stages of eating, from purees to more complex textures and solid foods. This approach is tailored to each child’s developmental stage and oral motor abilities, ensuring that they are introduced to new food textures at a pace that matches their individual needs. The aim is to promote safe and effective eating habits, helping children build the skills necessary for a varied and balanced diet.

The STEPS+ Program is an evidence-based approach designed to support children with feeding and swallowing difficulties. This program focuses on gradual, step-by-step progressions in feeding skills, addressing both physical and behavioural aspects of eating. The technique involves a multidisciplinary approach, combining input from therapists, dietitians, and caregivers to create a comprehensive plan that encourages positive feeding experiences. The ultimate goal is to help children achieve safe, enjoyable, and nutritionally adequate eating habits, improving their overall health and well-being.

Pacing methods are used to help children manage their rate of speech, especially those who speak too quickly or have difficulty with fluency. These techniques involve teaching the child to regulate their speech by pausing between words or phrases, which helps them articulate more clearly and reduces the likelihood of stuttering. Pacing methods are often combined with visual or tactile cues to reinforce the desired speech rhythm, leading to more controlled and effective communication.

The Division of Responsibility Method is a feeding approach that clearly defines roles for both the parent and the child during mealtimes. Parents are responsible for deciding what, when, and where food is offered, while the child is in control of how much to eat and whether to eat at all. This method reduces mealtime struggles by empowering the child to listen to their body’s cues, promoting a healthy relationship with food and encouraging self-regulation in eating habits.

Our paediatric physiotherapists offer a comprehensive range of services designed to support your child’s physical development and well-being.

We tailor each service to meet the unique needs of your child, ensuring they receive the best possible care. These include:

Facilitate Gross Motor Development

Our paediatric physiotherapists are dedicated to enhancing your child’s gross motor skills, such as sitting, crawling, walking, and running. By using evidence-based techniques and play-based activities, we help children develop the strength, coordination, and balance needed to perform these essential movements confidently, supporting their overall physical development.

We design customised stretching and strengthening programs tailored to your child’s specific needs. These programs focus on improving flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance, which are crucial for better mobility and posture. Our goal is to help your child build the physical foundation necessary for daily activities and participation in play.

Our postural retraining and motor control sessions aim to correct and enhance your child’s posture, ensuring proper alignment and movement patterns. Through targeted exercises and guidance, we work on improving their motor control, helping them maintain stability and efficiency in their movements, which is vital for their overall health and development.

Our team focuses on enhancing your child’s physical skills, such as balance, coordination, and agility. Through targeted exercises and engaging activities, we help children build the physical abilities needed to navigate their environments confidently and participate in everyday tasks, sports, and play activities.

We offer task-specific training tailored to your child’s individual goals, whether it’s learning to ride a bike, improving handwriting, or mastering a new skill. By breaking down tasks into manageable steps and providing consistent guidance, we help children achieve success in their daily activities and become more independent.

We evaluate and recommend the best mobility aids and equipment to enhance each child’s independence. This includes devices such as walkers, wheelchairs, or standing frames, all tailored to meet individual needs. Our goal is to improve mobility and autonomy, enabling your child to move more freely and confidently in various environments.

We specialise in prescribing Ankle-Foot Orthoses (AFOs) and other orthotic devices that provide crucial support for children with mobility challenges. These custom-made orthotics help improve foot alignment, stability, and walking patterns, allowing your child to move more efficiently and with greater comfort. We aim to enhance your child’s independence and overall quality of life.

Our serial casting and splinting services are designed to address muscle tightness, joint contractures, and positioning issues. By gradually stretching muscles and improving joint alignment, we help children gain a better range of motion and functional mobility. This non-invasive approach supports long-term improvements in your child’s physical abilities.

We provide tailored support to help children participate in sport and leisure activities. By working on specific physical skills and adapting activities as needed, we ensure your child can enjoy and benefit from being active. Our aim is to boost their confidence, social interaction, and overall well-being through active participation.

We assist in modifying tasks to suit your child’s unique abilities, ensuring they can participate in everyday activities with ease. By adapting activities and environments, we help children achieve success and independence in tasks that might otherwise be challenging. Our goal is to empower your child to engage fully in their daily routines and recreational activities.

We believe in empowering parents through coaching and education. Our physiotherapists provide parents with the knowledge and skills they need to support their child’s physical development at home. This includes guidance on exercises, positioning, and strategies to enhance your child’s progress between therapy sessions.

Our Child-Focused Physiotherapy Treatment Techniques

Rectangle 224@2x
L 01
L 02

We utilise a variety of specialised physiotherapy techniques to support your child’s physical development and well-being.

Each technique is carefully chosen to match your child’s unique needs, helping them achieve their goals and improve their quality of life. These include:

Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI)

Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) is provided by our expert physiotherapists to enhance motor control and strength in children. This therapy uses specific exercises and equipment to target and activate muscles, promoting better functional movements. DMI is particularly beneficial for children with movement disorders, helping them achieve greater mobility and independence through structured, progressive exercises.

The Pediasuit therapy, offered by our skilled team, utilises a specially designed suit to support and align your child’s body. This external support improves movement patterns, strength, and coordination, making it particularly effective for children with neurological conditions. The Pediasuit helps facilitate correct postural alignment, encouraging more efficient motor function and overall physical development.

Our Spider-Cage Therapy involves using a specialised “spider cage” frame equipped with elastic bungee cords. These cords provide support and resistance, allowing children to perform exercises in a controlled, safe environment. This therapy aims to improve strength, balance, coordination, and spatial awareness, particularly benefiting children with neurological and developmental conditions. The spider cage allows for customised exercises tailored to your child’s needs, promoting progress in an engaging manner.

Hydrotherapy is delivered by our experienced physiotherapists in a warm, supportive water environment. This technique uses the buoyancy and resistance of water to help children improve their strength, flexibility, and coordination. Hydrotherapy is particularly beneficial for children with mobility challenges, as it reduces the impact on joints while promoting safe, effective movement. The water provides a soothing environment that encourages participation and progress in physical therapy.

Our Garment Therapy involves the use of specially designed therapeutic clothing that supports and stabilises your child’s body. These garments are tailored to provide compression and alignment, helping improve posture, balance, and muscle function. Garment Therapy is particularly effective for children with neurological conditions, aiding in the development of proper movement patterns and enhancing overall physical function.

Whole Body Vibration (WBV) therapy is a technique used by our physiotherapists to stimulate muscle contractions and improve strength and coordination. The therapy involves your child standing, sitting, or lying on a vibrating platform, which activates muscles throughout the body. WBV is particularly beneficial for children with limited mobility, as it promotes muscle engagement and circulation in a gentle, non-invasive way.

Our Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) therapy uses small electrical impulses to stimulate muscle contractions, helping to strengthen weak muscles and improve motor control. This technique is especially beneficial for children with muscle weakness or neurological conditions, as it enhances muscle function and promotes better movement patterns. EMS is a non-invasive, targeted approach that supports your child’s overall physical development.

Our physiotherapists provide specialised care before and after Botox injections to maximise the benefits of this treatment. Pre-Botox interventions focus on preparing muscles for the procedure, while post-Botox rehabilitation helps maintain and improve muscle strength and function. These interventions are particularly helpful for children with spasticity or movement disorders, ensuring they achieve the best possible outcomes from Botox therapy.

Our pre- and post-surgery rehabilitation services are designed to support your child throughout their surgical journey. Before surgery, we work to strengthen muscles and improve mobility, preparing your child for the procedure. After surgery, we focus on recovery, helping your child regain strength, mobility, and function. Our goal is to ensure a smooth, successful recovery and to help your child return to their daily activities as quickly and safely as possible.
