About Our Process

Understanding Our Rehabilitation Process

Beginning therapy is a significant step for any family, and we are here to make the journey as seamless and transparent as possible. Our process ensures that you can feel confident and comfortable from the moment you reach out to South West Kids Clinic.

Questionnaire: Your journey begins with completing a questionnaire. This allows us to prepare for your first session so that your child’s transition into therapy is smooth. It also means we can select the most suitable assessment tools for your child.

Assessment: Our team will listen to your concerns to gain a deep understanding of what life is like for your child and family. We will then use various assessments to understand further the underlying difficulties impacting your child’s development.

Goal Setting: During your next meeting, you will work with your therapist to set meaningful and achievable goals and an action plan to help your child achieve these goals.

Intervention: You and your child will be guided through graded activities to target underlying skills using the most up-to-date research and proven therapy techniques.

Treatment may also involve collaboration with and education to other professionals, liaison with suppliers, or completing reports/letters/equipment applications at times where these are necessary to ensure the best outcomes for your child.

Home Practice: Home practice is vital in ensuring your child achieves their goals in the shortest time possible. Your therapist will provide home practice recommendations that fit your routines and lifestyle.

Review Goals: We formally evaluate your child’s goals every three months to track progress and identify areas for further improvement. New priorities may also be identified and added to the therapy plan.

Discharge: Once your child no longer needs therapy at our clinic, your therapist will provide a discharge summary and guide you towards the next stage of your child’s care.

"South West Kids Clinic has been wonderful for my son. When I was first told about my child needing therapy, I was quite scared as this was so new for me. After calling them for the first time, I immediately felt comfortable and that I had made the right decision. I have not looked back since starting with SWKC”.

Frequently asked questions
When is the best time to start therapy?
The best time to start therapy is when you notice any developmental delays or concerns in your child. Early intervention is crucial as it can significantly improve the effectiveness of the treatment, helping your child achieve the best possible outcomes.

The frequency of therapy sessions typically depends on your child’s specific needs and goals during the initial assessment. Most children benefit from weekly sessions, but we may suggest more or fewer visits based on your child’s progress.

Put simply, the greater your involvement is in therapy, the quicker your child will gain results. For this reason, we only work with families actively involved in their child’s therapy. This includes collaborating to establish goals, participating in therapy sessions, completing practice between sessions and providing feedback to your therapist about progress between sessions.
Our team conducts comprehensive assessments to understand each child’s strengths and challenges. Based on these assessments, we develop individualised therapy plans that are continually adapted to reflect progress and changing needs.
You can contact our clinic directly or via email to discuss your child’s needs. Our reception team will ask quick questions about your child to determine the next steps required.
Therapy sessions are primarily completed in our clinic; however, we occasionally recommend contacting the school or child care to observe your child and consult with the teachers regarding valuable strategies to promote success in the classroom or playground. Occasionally, ongoing sessions are suggested; however, this is based on clinical need rather than convenience.
