If you’re looking for a paediatric physiotherapist near Bankstown, our Prestons clinic is just a 20–25 minute drive away, and many families tell us the extra distance is worth it. At South West Kids Clinic, we support children aged 0–18 with movement challenges related to conditions like cerebral palsy, developmental delays, or post-surgery recovery.

We know it can be hard to find care that feels both expert and supportive. That’s why our team focuses on practical progress, helping your child build strength, move more easily, and gain confidence in a space that feels safe and encouraging.

You’ll also have access to a full therapy team under one roof. Our physiotherapists work closely with our occupational therapists, speech therapists, and dietitians, ensuring your child receives consistent support across all areas of their development.

This collaborative approach ensures seamless, comprehensive care for every aspect of your child’s development.

Our Approach to Helping Children with Physiotherapy

Every child is different, and so is the way they move, grow, and interact with the world. That’s why we don’t just follow a standard program, we build one that fits your child’s specific needs, goals, and personality.

Our paediatric physiotherapists use hands-on techniques, targeted exercises, and play-based therapy to help your child gain strength, improve movement, and feel more confident in their body. We focus on what matters most to your child and your family, whether that’s walking, sitting up, joining in at school, or playing with friends.

We provide comprehensive support for:

Facilitate Gross Motor Development

We support children in developing core movement skills, such as sitting, crawling, walking, and jumping. These skills are essential for everyday life, from getting dressed to playing outside. Our physiotherapists use play-based activities and guided exercises to strengthen muscles, enhance balance, and improve coordination. Each session is adjusted to your child’s level so they feel supported and motivated.

Many children struggle with tight muscles, poor posture, or low strength, which makes everyday movement harder than it should be. We support children to build strength and flexibility in ways that feel achievable and motivating. Improved strength and flexibility can make a big difference, helping your child sit comfortably, stay active longer, and move through their day with ease.

Some children struggle to sit upright, stay steady on their feet, or move in a coordinated way, often as a result of poor posture or difficulty controlling specific muscles. Our physiotherapists focus on positioning, alignment, and coordination, which can reduce discomfort, improve focus, and give your child more confidence in how they move through the day.

Many children need support to build core physical skills like balance, coordination, and strength. These are the basics that help with daily tasks, school routines, and play. We use practical, goal-based activities to help your child improve how they move. With stronger physical skills, your child can do more on their own and keep up with others in everyday situations.

Some children require help with movements they use in everyday life, such as walking up stairs or getting in and out of a chair. With targeted support, we can adjust our approach as your child improves, building strength and control through repetition and encouragement, so they become more confident and capable.

Our physiotherapists assess your child’s needs and trial different mobility aids to find what works best. We make sure each aid fits well and supports your child’s movement, comfort, and independence. With the right equipment, your child can move more freely, join in more activities, and feel more in control of their environment.

Orthotics and ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) are custom devices that help improve alignment and stability. We assess your child’s movement and posture, then prescribe and fit devices that are designed to support safe, efficient movement and reduce strain on the body.

Serial casting and splinting help improve flexibility and joint range over time. Our physiotherapists use gentle, progressive techniques to support muscles and joints in better positions. Casts or splints are adjusted gradually to encourage improved movement without causing pain or stress.

Joining in with sports, games, or community activities helps your child connect with others and stay active, but they may need extra help to do so safely and confidently. Our physiotherapists focus on the movements and tasks involved in your child’s chosen activity to suit their ability and help them reach their goals.

We help everyday tasks feel more manageable by adjusting how they are approached without taking away the challenge. Our physiotherapists break down movements like getting dressed, climbing stairs, or using playground equipment and adapt them to match your child’s current skills while still promoting progress.

We work closely with parents and carers to share practical strategies that can be used at home between therapy sessions. Our physiotherapists guide you through engaging exercises, positioning tips, and everyday routines that support your child’s development.

Some children experience pain from injury, strain, or long-term conditions, which can make movement and activity difficult. We help manage this pain so your child can stay active and engaged through gentle exercises, positioning, or supportive therapies tailored to your child’s needs.

Our Child-Focused Physiotherapy Treatment Techniques

Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI):

DMI is a therapy approach used to support children with motor delays or neurological function in children with developmental challenges. Our physiotherapists lead your child through targeted exercises that challenge their body to respond and adapt. By improving strength, balance, and motor control through guided movement, we can help children gain greater independence in daily tasks.

Pediasuit therapy supports children with neurological or developmental conditions by improving posture, strength, and muscle control. It involves a lightweight orthotic system that provides resistance and proprioceptive feedback during movement to help your child activate the right muscles while keeping their body aligned.

Spider cage therapy uses a frame with elastic cords to support your child’s body during movement. This setup lets your child attempt movements they may not manage on their own, building confidence and ability over time.

Hydrotherapy is a water-based treatment that helps children move more easily by reducing the strain on their muscles and joints. Our physiotherapists use exercises that target strength, balance, and coordination while taking advantage of the water’s natural resistance.

We support children both before and after surgery to build strength, improve mobility, and reduce stress during the recovery process. We maintain close partnerships with hospitals and medical specialists to ensure consistent, coordinated care for your child throughout their rehabilitation journey.
